The Solution
In order to establish a tighter control over the performance and whereabouts of its gritting vehicles, Derby City Council consulted with SimplyTrak, a leading specialist asset tracking company. Following a comprehensive audit of the immediate and ongoing requirement, a feature-rich cellular tracking system was recommended incorporating connectivity via the UK's leading M"M network aggregator - Wireless Logic using its ManageNet platform.
The implementation of the tracking system result in each gritting vehicle being retrofitted with a SIM-enabled tracking unit, remotely activated upon installation. Each unit was given a fixed IP address allowing two way communication between the vehicle and the control platform. Real-time monitoring of vehicle's location, precise activity and related data empowered the council to review the overall command and control systems of its gritting program.
